6, 2005 She did not want
a big party for her 75th birthday. She hadn't wanted one for her 70th,
either, but we were in England and France for a month while Lisa
secretly arranged it. This time, it was just a quiet celebration with
the family. Mindy had contacted family and friends to contribute
stories to a book which was presented to Sandy for her birthday. The

| There
were difficulties.
She had been diagnosed with
congestive heart failure and had been getting infusions of
Natrecor. At one point, her lungs filled up and a liter of fluid had
been drained. She saw her oncologist weekly for blood work and a
Procrit shot. Her blood counts dropped and she started receiving blood transfusions and then platelet transfusions also. In September, she was diagnosed with MDS, myeoldysplastic syndrome, a precurser to leukemia. |
