My Sandy - A Life in Pictures
August 6, 1930 to August 8, 2007

For better or for worse.
It took a while for "worse" to catch up with us, but it did.

Michael got sick in February 1967. At first  he was diagnosed with a stomach, then an intestinal, problem. We took him to Memorial Sloan-Kettering where he was diagnosed with lymphoma.

The doctor was serious, but gave us hope. He predicted  5 years, and encouraged us, since there was much research being conducted. Michael definitely had  a problem, but time was on his side, and we were sure that a cure would soon be found.

I found myself clinging to the idea that a solution would be found, since it made no sense at all for an 11 year old boy to die of cancer. There was no logic to it. It was just unreasonable.

Sandy wanted to fight, do something, do anything, scream at the moon, anything, but there was just nothing to be done.

Michael was in and out of hospitals during the next 2 months. Nothing worked. His 5 years turned out to be 6 weeks.

Michael died April 29, 1967.
